We have had many visitors lately. Our friend Shane Prigge from Grafton has been working in Thailand and India with the UN for the last 3 years or so. He was passing through and stayed a few days with us in Portland. Ben had to come up to visit from Crater Lake too. Annie Cooper lives here in Portland.

Everybody wants their turn to hold Wilson Scott.

Kim, Shana, and Wilson

A few more photos with Shana's Mom. My Dad, Neil, left this morning. He has been here for a week. Sad to see him go too.

It has been so wonderful having the family visiting. We are looking forward to seeing Scott and Miranda in 3 weeks. After that, Thanksgiving will probably be the next time we'll see any family.

We had Jinan and Kevin Weinhandle, our friends from St. Paul, visiting for a couple days too. The new Moms had their first night out on the town with their old college friend. And I do literally mean old. It was Jinan's 30th birthday.

Here is a video of my Mom and Dad, Shana and I, and Wilson. My Mom will be staying with us for a few more days. She is such a sweet grandma.

Things are great here. Both Shana and I can't complain about these first two weeks. Wilson sleeps 2-4 hours at a time. He really only cries while his diaper is being changed. I think he just hates being cold and naked. So we've been getting pretty good sleep. I took one week off work and am back at it now. Shana is enjoying staying home with him and doing very little each day except sitting with the little guy.

Wilson had his 2 week doctor appointment today. He is still only 7 pounds 12 ounces, one ounce less than his birth weight. We were a little concerned about that, but the doctor said it is nothing to be concerned about. He eats regularly and has plenty of poopy diapers, so I guess he's moving along at his natural pace.

He did manage to pee on the doctor twice during his appointment, which he also does to me at home on a regular basis.

Here is a video of him. We are just fascinated to sit and watch his facial expressions and noises. Enjoy.

Wilson has been all about the Soothie pacifier. It definitely pacifies. Yesterday he found his thumb for the first time. Kim says this is a great sign that he will be a calm baby able to pacify himself. All signs looking good.

A few more pictures. These are still from Sept. 11-12.

I had my first day back to work today. Shana and Kim brought Wilson up to the office. We went out to lunch with my staff so they could meet him too.

Wilson's first bath. I am in charge of diaper and washing so far.

Kim Thompson, Shana's Mom, is visiting us and is a huge help. She's getting the house in crawling baby condition, and giving Wilson lots of love.

The Daby family, Wally included.

Dunkerdoodle Nursery

The nursery is all completed. Zach Greskowiak did an amazing job on the Dunkerdoodle paintings. Note the tiny cross country skiers and really tiny mountain climbers on the Mt. Hood scene.

Day 4

Wow, I have to say Jon has done a great job managing the blog. We're doing well. Wilson was a rascal last night, waking about every hour, which makes it tough to get deep rest, but oh well! I wish I had a button to synchronize my sleep with his. Wilson is feeding very well, one less source of stress. The milk is here with a vengeance and I'm in some pain. Thank goodness for the pump my aunt Lisa sent me to use.

I'm really eager for my mom to arrive because I'm excited for her to meet her new grandchild. She is also beside herself with anticipation. For those of you who know Kim, you understand that she is the perfect person to attend to the business of acclimating a child into the world. She has so much energy and a get it done attitude, which is a welcomed force when I feel like I'm lost at sea with only three abilities: breastfeeding, feeling the pain emanating from my bottom, and reveling in the magic of our new baby. My needs go beyond my abilities at the moment, though.

One of my friends arranged to have our friends bring over meals for us during the first several days. What a convenient luxury it is to have a freshly prepared meal, either to eat immediately or to freeze. Thank you Miranda!

Wilson Movie Sept. 8

Here is a move, about 4 minutes long. I guess it's level of excitement depends upon your connection with him. Mostly him just making funny faces and Shana yelling and taunting him. I think it's extremely entertaining. But I'll admit I'm biased.

Sept. 8

Here are a few more pictures of Wilson Scott.

He was 7 pounds 13 ounces, 20.75 inches long at birth. He is doing great. He caught right on to breast feeding, and has been eating good.

We are at home, just laying around looking at his face. He slept pretty well the first night home. Waking about every 3 hours to eat. He slept almost 4 hours before morning. They say you are supposed to wake them every 2-3 hours to feed. But we've decided that is just plain stupid. If he's hungry, he'll let us know. And he certainly has so far.

Shana's grandma Cecelia and her grandpa Ross are here visiting. Shana was expecting to introduce little Cecelia to her great grandma Cecelia, but I guess Wilson had a different plan. We'll have to give it another try, but after a little break.

The Flynns and the Dabys

Megan, Shana's really close friend from college who lives out in Portland with us had a boy also, 2 weeks before Wilson.

He has really changed in 2 weeks.

The uncles and friends think Riley and Willey will be partners in crime in a few years.

Brendan and Megan holding the duo. Not a lot of action ...yet.

Sept. 6 Day 2 in Hospital

The standard blue hospital hat.

Dad and son.

Look at those big eyes;
And all that hair.

Wilson's got a pretty good shiner on his eye from the forceps. Apparently this is getting off easy from forcep use.

It's a boy!!! Wilson Scott Daby

Shana gave birth to Wilson Scott last night at about 8 pm. We went to the hospital, she 3 cm dilated, and they checked her into the labor and delivery dept.

Labor went slowly for a long time. No change despite potosin, a synthetic form of the hormone oxytocin which starts labor. They checked her several hours later, still 3 cm. They checker her 30 minutes later, over 8 cm! Things began to move really quickly and we were a bit freaked out. Wilson's heart rate was dropping and not recovering very well. Our doctor said we would try to push, quickly and shortly. If progress was not made, we would need to do a c-section. But Shana pushed only 3 times and Dr. Flath used the forceps and out he came.

What an unreal experience. All those parents telling me I just wouldn't understand until it happened were totally right. It was a bit of a surprise since most people thought it would be a girl from the way Shana was carrying the baby. But they flipped him over and there were the family jewels! Wilson!

Shana is doing great. She is pretty sore. But controlled with pain meds, and sitting on ice and a blow-up doughnut. But Wilson has been feeding well, getting the "latch" down. And we are a happy family hanging out in the hospital for a few days.

Wilson has been a dream. He is so quiet and curious. He spends his time either sleeping, or wide-eyed staring around the room at this big new world around him.

I'm not fooling myself thinking this lack of crying will continue forever. But he is so serene, and chilled out now. He's got a pretty good shiner on his eye from the forceps. But apparently babies can get a lot more beat up than this from forceps use.

He really has a lot of hair. Sort of brown/blond. We combed it with a part after he bathed last night. He looked like a little old man who was headed to the boardroom for business.

Well, I better get back to Shana. She's going to need a lot of help for a while. We are so happy. There definitely will be more updates and photos of the little guy.
