It's a boy!!! Wilson Scott Daby

Shana gave birth to Wilson Scott last night at about 8 pm. We went to the hospital, she 3 cm dilated, and they checked her into the labor and delivery dept.

Labor went slowly for a long time. No change despite potosin, a synthetic form of the hormone oxytocin which starts labor. They checked her several hours later, still 3 cm. They checker her 30 minutes later, over 8 cm! Things began to move really quickly and we were a bit freaked out. Wilson's heart rate was dropping and not recovering very well. Our doctor said we would try to push, quickly and shortly. If progress was not made, we would need to do a c-section. But Shana pushed only 3 times and Dr. Flath used the forceps and out he came.

What an unreal experience. All those parents telling me I just wouldn't understand until it happened were totally right. It was a bit of a surprise since most people thought it would be a girl from the way Shana was carrying the baby. But they flipped him over and there were the family jewels! Wilson!

Shana is doing great. She is pretty sore. But controlled with pain meds, and sitting on ice and a blow-up doughnut. But Wilson has been feeding well, getting the "latch" down. And we are a happy family hanging out in the hospital for a few days.

Wilson has been a dream. He is so quiet and curious. He spends his time either sleeping, or wide-eyed staring around the room at this big new world around him.

I'm not fooling myself thinking this lack of crying will continue forever. But he is so serene, and chilled out now. He's got a pretty good shiner on his eye from the forceps. But apparently babies can get a lot more beat up than this from forceps use.

He really has a lot of hair. Sort of brown/blond. We combed it with a part after he bathed last night. He looked like a little old man who was headed to the boardroom for business.

Well, I better get back to Shana. She's going to need a lot of help for a while. We are so happy. There definitely will be more updates and photos of the little guy.
