Shana started having contractions this morning at 3 am. They initially were only 5-7 minutes apart, and fairly intense. They decreased in frequency to about 15-20 minutes after a few hours. She was able to get a little more sleep, and I was as well.
It is now 11 am. We are still at home. Contractions about every 20 minutes still. We had a doctor's appointment yesterday where he stripped her membranes, a semi-non-invasive procedure (apparently it hurt a lot!) But I guess this really kicked her into labor since she had very few contractions prior to that, not even the Braxton-Hicks (sp?) small contractions.
So we have walked the dogs around the block. Rented a movie, and are still hanging out at home, staying relaxed and resting. We have a doctor's appointment today, but I think we will be checking into hotel Emmanuelle Hospital Birthing Center.
It is a relief that labor is beginning now. We postponed labor inducement one week from yesterday, to give Shana's body every chance to get ready for the labor. But one week from yesterday is, of course, September 11. How special. These pre-labor contractions could go on for a long time, but we're hoping today is the day. So Shawn, you may be closer than you think to Sept. 9. (but we still are not naming him Shawn, buddy).
Well I'll be sure to keep everyone posted. I'm bringing all the technology to the hospital and will post and email asap. Don't worry, no videos in the birthing room. Not until everyone is fully clothed, rested, and looking as good as possible after this ordeal. This may be the end of Shana in her underwear posts.
Stay tuned...
